Speakeasy Voices

Oh to be a Voiceover Artist….

So you want to be a voiceover artist? Well, grab your mic and get ready to impress the pants off those clients. But what exactly are they looking for when they’re scrolling through endless profiles of hopeful artists? Let’s take a look.

Voice Quality

First off, your voice needs to be smooth like butter, clear like a mountain stream, and sexy like…well, let’s just say clients want to be swooned. If you sound like a grumpy troll, they’ll scroll right past you faster than you can say “I was born with this voice, okay?”

Range & Versatility

Next up, versatility is key. Can you sound like a chipper elf in one moment and a menacing dragon in the next? If not, don’t worry, you can always go back to your day job.

Professionalism

Of course, clients want someone who’s a total pro, meaning you need to be communicative, reliable, and able to hit deadlines like it’s your job (which it is, actually). If you’re the type to ghost clients or procrastinate until the last minute, you might as well stick to talking to yourself in the shower.

Experience

Experience is important, but don’t worry if you don’t have lots of it yet. Just start somewhere, anywhere.

Equipment

Think about investing in some voiceover equipment to create a home studio and learn how to use it like a pro.  Blog to follow!

Voice Reel

Clients will also want to hear samples of your work, so get a voice reel together.  It’s worth paying to have it professionally done, too, to  help your voice ‘pop’ and give yourself the best chance of finding work.

Competitive Pricing

Pricing is always a factor, but don’t sell yourself short.  If you’re providing high-quality work, you deserve to be compensated accordingly.  If you join Speakeasy Voices, it’s our job to negotiate the right fee for our talent.  Unless you’re really desperate for that gig, in which case, just tell the client you’ll work for free pizza and hope for the best.
